Poets Den

Bees

Onlooking the hive

With wonder and reverence

This cooperative space

An example for the human race

The drone plays his temporary role

Of sacrifice for greater good

A scripted part – to live and die

This purpose so clear, in the hives eye

The Queen is the lead role

If she not perform

her scene ends, the hive acts

To ensure there are no setbacks

The olds, they too, have a path

When the season ends

Go on final final flight and depart

This path imprinted on the hive heart

These lives, those short, are profound

Fulfil a purpose as set out

When humans seek to replicate

Fail to see an unacceptable fate

To mimic the hive demands a trade

Freedom surrendered, and rights unknown

A sacrifice too great for the human heart

To yield, and play the part

An impossible dance

To the sentient and self-aware

Not surrender to the collectives call

For autonomy’s flames stand tall

Our own selves determine

It’s our nature

To ardently defend

The right to choose till the end
