Poets Den

Silence

The Silence that Precedes Betrayal

a deafening so loud

complicit in the harm

that serves no one

witness to distress

and be mute

protect self interest

useless cowardly bystander

witness and  do nothing

no risk involved

keep the status quo

at your own peril

Influenced by these quotes:

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

— Martin Luther King Jr

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

—Martin Niemöller
