This essay was submitted to two writing competitions and didn’t place. Rather than leave it sitting unseen in a folder, it seemed better to share it here with readers.
It reflects on the strange simultaneity of a single day: moving through ordinary routines of health, breath, and longevity while knowing that, somewhere else in that same day, a close friend is exercising the most final form of personal autonomy.
